Genie
Also known as: Genie hold (Side V hold)
A seated upside-down hold with crossed legs — visually striking, technically demanding.
Prerequisites
The first 'instagram move' most polers attempt. Looks easy. Isn't.
Common mistakes
- Trying for the static version before owning the spinning version
- Under-gripping with the legs while over-gripping with the hands
- Skipping prep moves on the day. They aren't optional
Tips from instructors
- Conditioning between classes is what unlocks the next level
- Try the same trick on both sides every session — even your weaker side
- Eat enough. Underfed strength training plateaus fast
- Listen for the instructor's specific cue per move — not the general one
- If you've been chasing the same trick for 3 weeks, change the angle
